Garlington Recognized by Big 12

Nov. 29, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas volleyball senior Karina Garlington was named to the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team, the league office announced Monday.

Garlington becomes the first Jayhawk honored by the Big 12 since Josi Lima in 2005.

The 6-0 outside hitter finished eighth among conference players with 3.51 kills per set and led Kansas in kills on 21 occasions in 2010. A Denver, Colo., native, Garlington finished her career as KU’s second all-time kills leader with 1,309 career kills. Additionally, her 3.18 kills per set career average ranks seventh in program history.

In addition to her talent on the court, Garlington has also excelled in the classroom as she earned her third-straight Academic All-Big 12 First Team nod in 2010 and was named to the ESPN Academic All-District Second Team.

The All-Big 12 awards are chosen by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
