Kansas junior pitcher T.J. Walz has been named one of 2010’s Top Players by The College Baseball Blog. The site has named the Jayhawk righty one of 100 players to watch for 2010.

Walz, a junior from Omaha, Neb., went 8-3 last season with a 4.70 ERA in 14 starts for KU. He led the team in stikeouts with 88 as well as batting average against among the Jayhawks’ starting pitchers (.264). The junior was named All-Big 12 Second Team last season, and also garnered Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors (April 6) after tossing a three-hit shutout against then-No. 7 Baylor.

Walz pitched for U.S. Collegiate National team this summer and posted a 2-0 record with 2.89 ERA in 18 2/3 innings of work. He walked just six and struck out 22 for Team USA.

The College Baseball Blog is a national blog devoted to college baseball. Over the past few seasons, it has put together a Top 100 list of the players to watch for the upcoming year.

Walz and the Jayhawks will open the 2010 campaign on Friday, Feb. 19 when they host Eastern Michigan at Hoglund Ballpark. KU is coming off a 39-24 season, which saw it advance to the NCAA Regionals.
