Three Kansas Football Players Earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football players D.J. Beshears, Jake Laptad and Alonso Rojas were recognized for their efforts this past season as each member of the trio was named to the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention football teams by the league coaches Tuesday.
Beshears was named as a return man, Laptad at defensive end and Rojas at punter. Laptad was named honorable mention for the third straight season, while Rojas was tabbed for the second straight year.

It marks the first time since the 2003 season that there wasn’t at least one Jayhawk named to the first team. Neither Iowa State, Baylor and Texas Tech had a player selected to the first team.
Beshears, a 5-8, 174, So., from Denton, Texas, set school records with 36 kickoff returns for 922 yards. His 25.61 average ranks 40th in the nation and fourth in the Big 12 Conference. Beshers had a 96-yard return for a touchdown against New Mexico State and was named the Conference Special Teams Player of the Week that game.
Laptad, a 6-4, 260, Sr., from Tulsa, Okla., recorded 38 tackles on the season. His 8.5 tackles for loss led the team, as did his 4.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. He also recorded five quarterback hurries. The three forced fumbles tied for 35th in the NCAA.
He finished his career with 21 sacks to rank second in Kansas history behind 24 by Algie Atkinson.

Rojas, a 6-3, 228, Sr., from Miami, Fla., averaged 42.4 yards per punt in 2010 to rank 40th in the nation. He punted 64 times and recorded 14 50-plus yard punts, while landing 14 inside the opponent 20-yard line. He finished his three-year career with a 41.5 average for the sixth best mark in school history.
Alonso Rojas kicked a 77-yarder this season.
