LAWRENCE, Kan. – Brock Drogosch, an accomplished golfer on the junior amateur circuit from Windermere, Fla., will join the Kansas men’s golf team next fall and becomes the fifth member of head coach Jamie Bermel’s first recruiting class.

Drogosch, a high school senior who holds a 4.2 GPA at Windermere Preparatory School, has a bevy of tournament experience, competing on the Florida Junior Tour (FJT), Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) and at numerous American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events, among others. He joins Chase Hanna (Mission Hills, Kan.), Connor Peck (Ankeny, Iowa), Danny Summers (Leawood, Kan.) and Jacques Wilson (Minnetonka, Minn.) as newcomers for the Jayhawks in the fall.

“Overall, we really like the class of signees for 2013,” Bermel said. “All of these guys are excited for the opportunity to help build the program. They are very talented golfers, talented students, and passionate about KU golf.”

Drogosch’s best results have come on the FCWT, a junior golf circuit showcasing collegiate hopefuls from around the world. He logged five top-10 finishes on the FCWT in the last calendar year, including a pair of runner-up finishes and a seventh-place finish in the last three months. Drogosch was the lone runner-up at the FCWT Tournament at TPC Tampa Bay (Sept. 30), then tied for second at the FCWT Tournament at Falcon’s Fire (Oct. 28). In both events he was the top American golfer. Most recently, he tied for seventh with a 2-over 223 at FCWT Champions Gate (Nov. 25).

Drogosch posted his best Florida Junior Tour (16-18) finish in February when he finished ninth at Amelia National Golf Club on Amelia Island, then made the cut in the 116-player field at the Florida Boys’ Junior Championship and finished tied for 35th at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – right behind current Jayhawk Jordan Santiago. Other top finishes in the last year include fourth place at the USGA Junior Boys Qualifier (June 18) in Oxford, Conn., and fourth place at the AJGA Steve Marino Championship (Aug. 2).

“Brock certainly adds more depth to the class,” Bermel said. “He has a lot of tournament experience around the country. He’s a solid player, but an even better person.”

Kansas posted top-five finishes in two of the last three events of the fall slate and saw senior Chris Gilbert earn the individual title at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Oct. 23. The Jayhawks are scheduled to play in six regular season events in the spring, starting Feb. 22 at the University of Wyoming Desert Classic in Palm Desert, Calif., and culminating with the Big 12 Championship (April 22-24) at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
