Kansas Softball Announces December Skills Camp

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Megan Smith, her staff and the Kansas softball team will host a December Skills Camp, Sunday, Dec. 9 inside Anschutz Pavilion.
The clinic will be divided into two main sessions, with a 45-minute slapping session scheduled between the two. The main sessions will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, while the slapping session will go from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM.
Session I will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and will cover pitching for grades 8-12 and hitting and defense for grades 3-7. The pitching portion of the clinic for grades 8-12 will focus on the advanced skills that a pitcher needs to increase velocity through leg drive and the knowledge and drills that will improve the break of moving pitches. (Note: Pitchers will need to bring their own catchers).
The hitting and defensive portions for grades 3-7 will focus on the fundamentals of hitting and defense and will include several drills that will help lay a solid foundation of softball skills.
The slapping session will run from 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM and is open to campers in grades 3-12. During this session, campers will learn from Smith and current KU slappers about the proper technique of footwork and bat control.
Session II will run from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM and will cover pitching for grades 3-7 and hitting and defense for grades 8-12. The pitching clinic will include the breakdown of the fastball, change-up and drop ball. We will focus on the importance of location of the fastball, changing speeds, and introducing the art of moving pitches. (Note: Pitchers will need to bring their own catchers).
The hitting and defensive portion of the clinic will focus on more advanced skills, including specific techniques for hitting for more power and position specific defensive work.
The cost for each Sessions I and II is $120 – however, if you sign up for both sessions, it will only cost $210 – a savings of $30. The cost for the slapping session is $40.
