Former Jayhawk Aqib Talib Named To Orange Bowl Committee 75th Anniversary Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib was named to the Orange Bowl Committee’s 75th Anniversary Team it was announced on Friday. The team was selected by fan voting at miamiherald.com from a list nominated by a panel of college football sports writers. The team commemorates the Committee’s 75 years in operation.

Talib was named the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl Most Valuable Player after leading Kansas to a 24-21 victory against Virginia Tech. Talib returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown for the game’s first score. He also had five tackles and returned a punt 17 yards.

In 2007 Talib was a consensus All-American, won the Jack Tatum Award, was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award. He finished his junior year with 66 tackles, five interceptions and 13 passes broken up.

Talib was then selected in the first round of the National Football League draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 20th overall pick.

The Orange Bowl victory capped a 12-1 record for the Jayhawks.
