Postmeet Quotes

Bob Timmons Challenge

Dec. 5, 2009

Stanley Redwine – Head Coach

On the goals and outcome of the Bob Timmons Challenge:

“Everyone did a really great job today. They were looking to go out and compete hard. We wanted to see where the athletes were with their Fall training. All of them did a really good job and competed well. Maybe the times and marks were not the best that we would want throughout the entire season, but I think competition makes you better and everyone on the team did a great job competing.”

Elisha Brewer – Sprints/Hurdles Coach

On the 4×400 meter relay performance (men and women):

“I am really pleased with the teams’ effort. I think both teams went out there and competed hard. It is always exciting when it is a close finish and the women’s finish was extremely close. I am really proud of the girls. I think each one of them ran hard and ran to the best of their ability and I think the same of the men’s team. I am very pleased with where we are right now. We are definitely going to get better, but for right now in December, I think it is a really good start.”

On the expectations and outcome of this early-season meet:

“We wanted to see how everyone would react in competition. We have been training since September, so it is nice to see where we are on a competitive level. We definitely have work to do, but from the coaching standpoint, we are definitely pleased with some of the performances we saw today.”

On Keith Hayes performance in the 60-meter hurdles:

“This is fairly early in the season, so for him to come out in the first meet and provisionally qualify is extremely exciting. I am looking forward to see what’s coming. I think he has great potential and I am excited to see what is going to happen in the rest of the season.”

Tom Hays – Vertical Jumps Coach

On the goals of the early-season meet:

“We try to wrap up our Fall training and see where everyone stands. This is sort-of a preseason type meet, just like basketball might have, to find out where we need to go and what we need to do for future training.”

On the progress of the vertical jumps squad (pole vaulters and high jumpers):

“I was really looking at fitness level and all of them were a lot more fit than they were at this time last year. We had goals for a couple of the athletes to be bigger and stronger, and they are, so that was good. We also had a couple seniors start off in this meet as good as they have been in the past, so overall I think we are in good shape.”
