Kansas‘ win over Jackson State…
…improves the team to 7-1
…gives KU a 4-0 series edge against Jackson State
…gives Kansas a 30 game home winning streak. It is the fourth time in school history Kansas has posted a 30 game winning streak or longer.
…improves head coach Bill Self’s record to 149-33 at Kansas, 356-138 overall and to 2-0 all-time against Jackson State.
…makes the Jayhawks 621-106 all-time in Allen Fieldhouse.
…gives the Jayhawks their 1,950th win in school history.
Notes:
-Kansas used the starting lineup of Brady Morningstar, Sherron Collins, Tyshawn Taylor, Cole Aldrich, & Matt Kleinmann.
-Senior center Matt Kleinmann recorded his first career start as a Jayhawk.
-Kansas took their first lead of the game 11-10 at the 14:04 mark in the first half on a Marcus Morris lay-in. Morris’ lay-in was part of a 17 point run over a 4:23 span to make the score 21-10 after falling behind Jackson State 4-10.
-Freshman Markieff Morris hit his second 3-point basket of the season at the 12:12 mark in the first half. His first 3-point basket came against Syracuse in the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo.
-Kansas’ bench scored 16 of the team’s 36 first half points and 40 of the team’s 86 total points.
-Sherron Collins scored his first points of the game with 2:06 remaining in the first half. He started the game 0-7 from the field.
-Kansas shot 14-17 from the free throw line, increasing its free throw percentage to 73.8%.
-Kansas led Jackson State 36-31 at halftime. The five points were the closest halftime margin since KU was tied with UMKC at halftime 32-32.
Kansas started the second half with Brady Morningstar, Sherron Collins, Tyshawn Taylor, Cole Aldrich & Marcus Morris.
-Freshman guard Tyshawn Taylor recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 assists. Taylor scored in double-figures for the sixth consecutive game and Taylor’s 11 assists were also a career high and the most by a Jayhawk freshman since Aaron Miles recorded 15 vs. Texas Tech on March 9, 2002.
-Reed’s eight points over a 1:09 span increased Kansas’ lead to 56-42. (Two 3-point baskets and two free throws).
-Kansas had five players score in double figures for the second consecutive game.
-Cole Aldrich improved his Big 12-leading free throw percentage to 88.6% after going 5-5 from the line. He is 31-35 on the season.
-Kansas recorded their largest lead of the game (26 points) with 2:47 to play on Quintrell Thomas’ 3-point play.
-Kansas set season highs for 3-point field goals (12); 3-point field goal attempts (27), and assists (25).
-Sherron Collins’ 11 assists Dec. 3 along with Tyshawn Taylor’s 11 assists today marked the first time the Jayhawks had double digit assists by a player in consecutive games since Aaron Miles had 12 assists on Jan. 28, 2004 against Kansas State and followed it up with 11 assists against Iowa State on Jan. 31, 2004. The last time two different players had double digit assists in consecutive games was Dec. 30, 1988 when Scooter Barry had 11 assists against Southwest Missouri State and Jan. 3, 1989 when Kevin Pritchard dished out 10 assists against Brown.
