Dec. 7, 2009

IRVING, Texas – Kansas freshman Xavier Henry has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week for his efforts in KU’s two wins against Alcorn State and at UCLA last week.

The Oklahoma City guard averaged 17.0 points and 4.0 rebounds, while shooting 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the floor in KU’s 98-31 win against Alcorn State and 73-61 victory at UCLA. He started the week with an 18-point effort versus Alcorn State, and then followed with 16 points against the Bruins. In two games, he was 9-of-17 (.529) from three-point range and 3-of-4 (.750) from the free throw line. He also had four steals and two blocked shots. Henry has scored in double digits in every outing in 2009-10 and leads all Big 12 freshmen in scoring with 16.9 points per game.

This marks the 18th time a Kansas player has won Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors and the first time this season. Last year, KU’s Tyshawn Taylor garnered league rookie of the week accolades four times.

Texas Tech junior guard John Roberson was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week with his 25 points in Tech’s overtime win against Washington.
