Kansas Men's Basketball to Face Kentucky, Michigan State and Duke in Champions Classic
Dec. 8, 2010
BRISTOL, Conn. – Kansas men’s basketball will participate in the Champions Classic over the next three seasons with national powers Kentucky, Michigan State and Duke, as ESPN announced the upcoming event Wednesday.
The Champions Classic starts next season, 2011-12, and will run three years in double-header format with the aforementioned marquee programs. The games will all be televised on ESPN.
Kansas will face Kentucky on Nov. 15, 2011, in Madison Square Garden in New York, while Michigan State will play Duke. The following year, Kansas will play Michigan State on Nov. 13, 2012, at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Duke will play Kentucky in that Champions Classic double-header. On Nov. 12, 2013, the venue will be the United Center in Chicago with Kansas playing Duke and Kentucky facing Michigan State.
“I thought it was a great idea and I think it’s great playing on neutral sites,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “To come back to Madison Square Garden will be great with three other unbelievable programs. I’ll bet each of these programs will sell whatever ticket allotment they have — 4 to 5,000.”
