Track and Field To Open Season On Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas men’s and women’s track and field program will open the 2006 indoor season with the K-State All-Comers Meet hosted by Kansas State University on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan.

In addition to the Jayhawks, the field also includes Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Portland State, Emporia State, Oklahoma Baptist and Wake Forest.

The women will be led by Kate Sultanova, the defending Big 12 outdoor champion in the pole vault. Sultanova also garnered All-American honors in the pole vault for her seventh place result at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The men returns senior Sheldon Battle, an All-American in the shot put (indoor and outdoor) as well as the defending Big 12 champion in the discus and hammer.

Following the holiday break, Kansas will return to action at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
