Jayhawks Host Volleyball Fun Day

Dec. 9, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Members of the Kansas volleyball team spent their Thursday afternoon with close to 20 kids from the Hilltop Child Development Center on campus learning the game of volleyball.

The children, who ranged between the ages of four and six, joined the KU volleyball team on their home court inside the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Jayhawks provided instruction and a variety of drills to help teach the game of volleyball to encourage active lifestyles and help promote the importance of fitness.

“Since our season is over we have a lot more time to give back to the community,” said junior Lauren Hagan. “We know that we have such a big impact on kids and this is a great way to provide a positive impression.”

Standing no taller than four feet, most of the kids in attendance came no higher than the volleyball players’ waistlines, but that didn’t stop the group from bonding during their hour of activity.

“The team and I love doing activities like this,” Hagan added. “It really is a lot of fun.”
