Behind a 17-point performance from sophomore C.J. Giles, the University of Kansas men’s basketball team defeated Cal on Saturday, 69-56, at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. The Jayhawks improved to 4-4 on the season.

Down three at halftime, the Jayhawks used a 27-7 run to gain a comfortable margin. They never again relinquished the lead.

Freshman Brandon Rush scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Giles had nine rebounds, three steals and five blocks to go along with his game-high 17 points.

Kansas was also helped tremendously by production off its bench. The Jayhawks outscored the Golden Bears by a 30-6 margin. Senior reserve Stephen Vinson had career highs in both points (6) and assists (6).

The Golden Bears were led by sophomore forward Leon Powe’s 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Kansas will return to action on Dec. 19 to face Pepperdine in Allen Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
