Jayhawks Perform Well In Opening Meet

MANHATTAN, Kan. –
The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas track and field teams competed in their first meet of the season as they traveled to Manhattan, Kan., to participate in the K-State All-Comers meet on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Jayhawks competed at the event with Kansas State, Portland State, Saint Gregory’s, Neosho County CC, Emporia State, Oklahoma Baptist, William Jewell, Oklahoma State, Highland CC, Bethany College, Wichita State and Wake Forest. The meet was not team scored.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
“I thought it was a good day for what we needed to get accomplished,” head coach Stanley Redwine said after the meet. “We were looking to see where we were, and we did that.”
Ten Jayhawks finished in the top four of their event, highlighted by wins in the 60m hurdles by Aaron Thompson (7.96) and in the 600 yard run by Matt Baysinger (1:12.28).
Other notable finishes for the Jayhawks included Janiece Gatson’s third place result in the 600 yard run in a time of 1:26.03. Cortney Jacobs finished fourth in the same event (1:28.90). Charisse Bacchus finished third in the 60m hurdles (8.62) while Shatoya Hill also had a third place result in the triple jump (39-06.00).
On the men’s side, Jarrell Rollins finished fourth in the 400m in a time of 50.90. Adrian Ludwig ran a 2:33.51 in the 1000m, also good for fourth. Julius Jiles had a third place result in the 60m hurdles (8.13) while Josh Kirk finished fourth in the pole vault (15-11.00).
Additionally, both the men’s and women’s 4x400m `A’ relay teams finished third in times of 3:22.23 and 3:54.76, respectively.
The Jayhawks will have a month off from competition before returning to action to participate in the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., on Jan. 13.
