Official Kansas Ornament in D. C. Celebrates KU's 2008 NCAA Championship

Dec. 12, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The official state ornament featured on the State of Kansas Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., celebrates KU’s 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship and the Jayhawks’ four other national basketball titles.

Last week President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush lit the National Tree and State Trees in a nationally-televised ceremony, opening a month-long display of the decorated trees.

Kansas defeated Memphis 75-68 in overtime last April for its fifth national men’s basketball title.

The ornaments are being sold at KU Store.com in Allen Fieldhouse and at the KU Bookstores. They are also available online at kustore.com. The ornaments come in a blue gift box with the ornament design imprinted on the lid, and include a certificate of authenticity.
