Linebacker Nick Reid Named Third-Team All-America

Dec. 13, 2005

Lawrence, Kan. — Postseason awards continue to pile up for senior linebacker Nick Reid who was named Third-Team All-America by the Associated Press on Tuesday. Earlier in the month, the Derby, Kan., native was voted the 2005 Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Reid’s selection marks the second time in the last two seasons that a KU player has received an All-American honor from the AP. Last year, junior Charles Gordon was a third-team selection as a defensive back.

Reid led all Big 12 defenders in 2005 with an average of 9.6 tackles per game and was sixth in the league with an average of 1.18 tackles-for-loss per contest. In addition, he is the first Kansas linebacker since 1997 to earn All-Big 12 First-Team honors (Ron Warner).
