KU's Sims Earns Freshman Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas running back James Sims earned postseason recognition from two outlets this week as he was tabbed College Football News Freshman All-America honorable mention and Rivals.com Freshman All-Big 12 First Team.

Sims, a true freshman from Irving, Texas, led the Jayhawks with 742 rushing yards on 168 carries. He also led KU with 10 touchdowns, including nine rushing scores. His 742 yards were the fourth most by a Jayhawk freshman in school history and currently rank ninth among NCAA freshmen this season.

In his collegiate debut against then No. 15 Georgia Tech, he carried the ball 17 times for 101 yards and one touchdown. He posted three 100-yard rushing games on the season, which tied for the second most by a freshman in school history.

Against Colorado he tied school records with four touchdowns for 24 points.

In addition to running the ball, Sims tied for third on the team with 19 catches which he turned into 134 yards and one touchdown. Sims started four games on the year – Southern Mississippi, Baylor, Kansas State and Missouri.
