WIBW Radio in Topeka Extends Relationship with Kansas Athletics through 2013-14

Dec. 18, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – WIBW 580 AM will remain Topeka’s affiliate on the Jayhawk Radio Network through the 2013-14 academic year.

WIBW’s signal, one of the strongest in the country, makes Kansas Athletics broadcasts some of the most dominant in the state of Kansas. WIBW and Kansas Athletics joined forces in July 2006 with a three-year contract that has now been extended five additional years.

“We said two years ago when WIBW signed on with us that it is one of the Midwest’s great stations,” Kansas Athletics Director Lew Perkins said. “Having our games on WIBW has indeed made it easier for our fans to follow the Jayhawks.”

WIBW will continue to broadcast all KU football and men’s basketball games, along with the weekly “Hawk Talk” – the football and men’s and women’s basketball coaches’ shows. All women’s basketball games also will be broadcast on the Topeka station.

“Our partnership with Kansas Athletics is truly incredible,” said Larry Riggins, General Manager of WIBW Radio. “We couldn’t ask for a more solid foundation to our sports programming on 580 WIBW, and this new five-year agreement solidifies our support of a great university and its athletics program.”
