TEAM NOTES

  • The Jayhawks led the Spiders 39-18 at halftime, marking the third time this season KU has held a 20-point lead or greater at the intermission.
  • KU kept the lead for all 40 minutes against Richmond, marking the seventh-straight contest the Jayhawks have not surrendered a lead. Kansas has now led for 293:36-consecutive minutes dating back to the Nov. 15 win over Chattanooga.
  • Kansas opened the game on a 9-3 run, keeping the trend of fast starts this season. The Jayhawks are outscoring opponents 107-50 in the opening five minutes of their games this year.
  • Richmond’s 18 first-half points were the second-fewest the Jayhawks have allowed in a half this season.
  • Richmond came back with 41 points in the second half, the most by a KU opponent this season.
  • KU made a season-high 36 field goals.
  • The Jayhawks outscored the Spiders 54-16 in the paint, their largest point-in-the-paint differential of the year. KU has owned the paint this year, averaging a 19.4- point advantage in the lane this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • With his 17 points and season-high 13 rebounds, senior C Jeff Withey notched his fourth double-double of the season and the 10 of his career.th
  • Withey added to his nation-leading block total with four. He now has 54 rejections on the year and 219 for his career, passing Scot Pollard for fifth all-time on the KU block list.
  • Withey has now recorded at least one block in 20-consecutive games and at least two blocks in 19-straight contests.
  • Freshman G Ben McLemore added 14 points to his team-leading 15.9 ppg, including a two-of-three clip from beyond the arc. He has now connected on multiple threes in four-straight contests, going 11-of-18 (61 percent) from three-point land in that span.
  • McLemore also brought down seven rebounds, his third-highest total of the year.
  • Senior G Elijah Johnson dished out seven assists, marking fifth time in the previous six contests he has amassed five or more dimes.
  • Sophomore G Naadir Tharpe shot in a career-high three three-pointers off four attempts en route to scoring 11 points, also a career-high.
  • Freshman G Andrew White III collected two blocks, his first rejections as a Jayhawk.
  • Freshman G Evan Manning scored his first points as Jayhawk with a layup with 1:05 to play.
