Dec. 19, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior forward Caroline Kastor has been named to the Scholar All-America Third Team it was announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Kastor becomes the second KU soccer player to find her name on the prestigious list, which recognizes just 33 of the nation’s top collegiate soccer players per season, for their performances on the field and in the classroom.

“I couldn’t be prouder of Caroline and all that she’s accomplished this season,” said head coach Mark Francis. “She’s not only an exceptional talent on the soccer field but has also proven that she is one of the nation’s top performers in the classroom as well. We’re very fortunate to have her associated with this program.”

A classical antiquities major who carries a cumulative GPA of 3.53 and has been a two-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, Kastor is the second Jayhawk to be named an Academic All-American after Kansas soccer great Caroline Smith was twice named to the second team in 2004 and 2005.

A native of Wichita, Kan., Kastor led the Jayhawks this past season in points (24) and goals (11) while also leading the Big 12 in game-winning goals with five. Her accomplishments on the field also garnered her All-Big 12 Second Team honors for the first time.

The postseason has been full of academic awards for the 2012 Jayhawks. For the ninth-consecutive year, KU earned a Team Academic Award from the NSCAA after boasting a team GPA of 3.19 for the 2011-12 academic year. Kansas also featured a program record-tying 11 Academic All-Big 12 selections this season and added Kastor to the Capital One Academic All-District® team before earning this week’s NSCAA Scholar All-America distinction.

Kansas finished the 2012 season at 10-8-2, falling to Texas Tech in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship.
