McCray Scores a Season-High 30 Points as Kansas Defeats UC-Riverside, 75-60

Danielle McCray’s season-high 30 points helped propel No. 22 Kansas past UC-Riverside, 75-60, in front of 3,326 fans at Allen Fieldhouse Sunday.

KU improves to 8-2 on the season, while the Highlanders drop to 2-7.

McCray scored efficiently throughout the game, finishing 11 of 21 from the field with four three-pointers. McCray also added eight rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.

The Olathe, Kan. native has now recorded 35 games in her career with 20 or more points.

McCray was joined in double figures by teammates Aishah Sutherland and Krysten Boogaard. Sutherland scored 11 points, while Boogaard chipped in 10.

The Jayhawks’ trio of double-digit scorers also helped KU dominate the boards. The trio combined for 22 rebounds, as KU outrebound the Highlanders 45-23. The rebounding edge helped give the Jayhawks a 24-9 advantage in second chance points.

Kansas was aggressive going to the basket throughout the game, and as a result, attempted 21 free-throws, which was 11 more than its opponent. Seven different Jayhawks made trips to the charity stripe.

The depth of the Crimson and Blue helped wear down the Highlanders, as all 13 Jayhawks who suited up played in the game and helped the KU bench outscore the UC-Riverside bench 18-6.

The Jayhawks went to the locker room with a 12-point advantage behind 18 first-half points by McCray.

Both teams struggled to score out of the gate with just seven combined points in the first six minutes of play. McCray then scored 11 consecutive points for the Jayhawks to give them a 17-10 edge with 10:24 remaining in the opening period.

The Jayhawks’ 75-point output marks the fourth-straight game that the Jayhawks have scored 75 points or more.

Kansas will next be in action on Tuesday Dec. 22 when they travel to Houston, Texas to face the Houston Cougars at 7 p.m. The game will not be televised, but can be heard on the Jayhawk Radio Network.
