Dec. 20, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas freshman Josh Selby has been selected the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference for his season debut versus USC on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Selby made his collegiate debut a memorable one in the Jayhawks’ 70-68 victory over USC. The freshman guard finished with 21 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining to give KU a 69-68 lead it would not relinquish. He also pulled down a key defensive rebound with 43 seconds left, just prior to his 3-pointer. The Baltimore-native finished the game 5-of-11 (.455) from the field, including 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc. He was also 6-of-7 (.857) from the free throw line with five rebounds and one assist in 27 minutes of action.

Selby became the first Jayhawk freshman to earn rookie of the week accolades since Xavier Henry earned the award three times during the 2009-10 season.
