KU Defeats Creighton, Ups Record to 9-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas women’s basketball team defeated Creighton University, 63-52, Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Jayhawks improve to 9-0 on the season, one win shy of tying the school record for the best start to a season.

After leading 29-27 at the half, the Jayhawks stretched their lead to as many as 13 points in the second stanza. KU’s defense held the Bluejays to 31 percent shooting from the field in the second half. The game saw eight lead changes and was tied nine different times.

Senior Crystal Kemp led all KU scorers with 16 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Senior Erica Hallman filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Senior guard Kaylee Brown was the third Jayhawk to post double-figures with 11 points.

Creighton’s senior guard Kristi Woodard led all players with 23 points. KU held Creighton’s leading scorer Angie Janis to a season-low five points on the night. Kansas converted 16 Bluejay turnovers into 18 points and recorded 10 fast break point to CU’s none.

The Jayhawks will look to tie the school record with 10-straight wins to start the season when they host Pepperdine at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
