FORT WORTH, Texas – Wednesday was the third day of preparation in the Lone Star State for the University of Kansas football team in anticipation of the Jayhawks’ meeting with Houston on Friday in Fort Worth Bowl III.

The team received an 8 a.m. wake-up call on Wednesday morning. After breakfast, the squad gathered for special teams meetings and position meetings in the spacious conference rooms at the team hotel. At 10:20 a.m., the Jayhawks boarded buses and headed to Burleson High School for their final practice at the Elks’ stadium.

First order of business in Burleson was to take a team photo. Following the photo, the team ran through drills in shoulder pads and shorts for two hours in the clear, warm Texas weather.

Following the spirited practice, the team returned to the hotel for some free time. Freshmen Kerry Meier, Angus Quigley, Justin Thornton, Caleb Blakesley and Jeff Wheeler took some time to visit Cooks Children’s Hospital, along with five players from the University of Houston. The players handed out gifts, signed autographs and spent time with the children.

“It was real nice to be able to help put a smile on their faces,” Quigley said.

Day three was capped off by a team dinner at a local restaurant, and many players took in a movie before turning in for the night.
