Jayhawks Cruise Past Northern Colorado, 85-62

The University of Kansas used a 14-0 run to open the game and never looked back as the Jayhawks defeated Northern Colorado, 85-62, Thursday night at Allen Fieldhouse. KU improves to 6-4 on the season.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
An ally-oop dunk by freshman Brandon Rush from sophomore Russell Robinson on the first possession of the game started KU’s early spurt. During the 14 point run, Rush knocked down two 3-pointers while Christian Moody – making his first start of the season – added four points.
After taking a 40-23 lead into halftime, KU started the second half with an 11-2 run and led by as many as 33 points in the stanza.
Sophomore forward Darnell Jackson made his first appearance of the season and responded with a career-high 12 points and six rebounds. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Rush scored 13 points and was a perfect 3-of-3 behind the arc. Freshman Julian Wright scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Sophomore Jeremy Case poured in a career-high 11 points on 3-of-4 from 3-point land.
KU out-scored UNC, 42-10, in the paint and recorded eight fast break points to the Bears none.
The Jayhawks will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 29, when they host New Orleans. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will be shown nationally on ESPN2.
