Jayhawks Roll Waves With 82-54 Win Over Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – The one-two punch of sophomore Krysten Boogaard and junior Danielle McCray dominated as Kansas defeated Pepperdine, 82-54, on Tuesday afternoon at Firestone Fieldhouse. Boogaard and McCray combined for 40 of KU’s 82 points as the Jayhawks improved to 8-2 on the season. Pepperdine dropped to 6-6 with the loss.

Kansas jumped out to an early behind hot shooting and a strong rebounding effort as the Jayhawks made 60 percent of their field goals in the opening period. Boogaard finished the first half with 11 points, while McCray dropped in 10.

KU did not cool off in the second half as the Jayhawks connected on 18-of-23 shots in the second period, good for 78.3 percent. Kansas finished the game shooting a season-high 67.9 percent from the floor.

Boogaard led the way on offense by cashing in on 10-of-14 shots from the field on her way to 22 tallies. Boogaard also finished with nine rebounds and two blocks.

McCray was just as stellar as she knocked down 9-of-15 shots from the field and also had nine rebounds. The Olathe, Kan., native also led Kansas with a career-best seven assists. In addition she had two steals in the win.

Junior Sade Morris was also in double figures for the Jayhawks with 11 points off of 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. Morris also had four rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Nicollette Smith added eight points, seven rebounds and a career-best four assists.

For the game, Kansas out-rebounded Pepperdine 42-29 and held the Waves to just 26.6 percent shooting from the field. Pepperdine made just 17-of-64 shots from the field for the game.

All eleven Kansas players who saw action scored as the Jayhawk bench out-scored the Waves 21-13, led by senior Ivana Catic and junior Kelly Kohn with six points a piece. Catic also had four assists.

Kansas will break for the Holidays and return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when it plays host to Houston. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse with a live telecast on MetroSports.
