Kansas Football Holds Second Practice In Tempe

Dec. 27, 2008

TEMPE, Ariz. – Head Coach Mark Mangino ran his Kansas football team through its second practice in Tempe, Ariz. in preparation for the Jayhawks’ Insight Bowl game against Minnesota on Dec. 31.

Kansas and Minnesota will be meeting for the seventh time in history with each team winning three of the previous games. The teams last met in Lawrence in 1973 when the Jayhawks defeated Minnesota 34-19.

The Jayhawks practiced for two hours at a local high school before being given the rest of the day off.

“Practice has been very upbeat and has been at a fast-paced tempo,” Mangino said after the workout. “The team is in high spirits and we are getting more and more comfortable with our game plan.”

The team will take part in a dinner at a local steak house on Sunday. Earlier in the day the team will hold its third practice in the Phoenix area.

“The weather has been great,” said wide receiver/quarterback Kerry Meier. “Practice has been upbeat and we are anxious as we are getting closer to the game. Today’s practice was better than yesterday’s practice. We were flying around and making plays today.”

The game will be televised on the NFL Network as well as on WDAF Fox 4 in Kansas City. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Central time.
