Kansas' Markieff Morris Named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Kansas junior Markieff Morris scored a career-high 21 points in the Jayhawks’ only game of the week, a 78-63 victory at California (Dec. 22), and has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week in a vote of a media panel.

Morris, connected on 8-of-14 (.571) shots from the field, including one three-pointer against Cal. He was 4-of-4 from the free throw line while grabbing 10 rebounds and two steals in a career-best 31 minutes off the bench. It was the Philadelphia forward’s fourth double-double of the season and fifth of his career. Two of those efforts have come in the last three games.

Morris has led Kansas in scoring twice in 2010-11 and in rebounds on seven occasions. He ranks first in the Big 12 with 9.1 rebounds per game.

Morris becomes the third Jayhawk to earn Big 12 weekly accolades this season. His twin brother Marcus was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 29 and Josh Selby was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Dec. 20.
