Kansas Men's Basketball Hosts Successful Holiday Clinic

Dec. 27, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Nearly 400 kids attended the Kansas men’s basketball 2011 Holiday Clinic, Tuesday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Fieldhouse served as the meeting point for all campers prior to starting the day and housed the autograph session that concluded the afternoon. During the clinic, however, the team utilized the KU practice facility and the Horejsi Family Athletics Center to accommodate the large number of participants.

Director of Basketball Operations Barry Hinson grabbed the crowd’s attention, who gathered in the Allen Fieldhouse stands prior to the 1 p.m. start time, when he introduced head coach Bill Self. Self then introduced each player and member of his coaching staff. Although Self denied senior guard Jordan Juenemann’s request to take the microphone for a “special announcement,” he couldn’t stop Hinson from wishing the ninth-year Kansas head coach a happy birthday.

Following introductions, the campers were split into three groups: 2nd graders, 3rd/4th graders and 5th/6th graders. Different members of the coaching staff were assigned to each group, but the players rotated their time on all three courts to give each camper the opportunity to spend time with the Jayhawks.

“I know the guys get jacked every time we do this,” Self told the crowd during introductions. “We know we’re going to have a lot of fun today.”

The campers were put through various fundamental drills including passing, ball handling, rebounding, footwork and shooting. After the clinic wrapped up, the team, campers and their families reunited in Allen Fieldhouse for an autograph session. Coaches and players signed for all campers in attendance.

No. 17/18 Kansas returns to action on Thurs., Dec. 29, when the Jayhawks host Howard in Allen Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
