Sophomore Mario Chalmers matched a season high with 22 points and the Jayhawks held Detroit to 30-percent shooting as the University of Kansas (11-2) defeated the Titans (3-9), 63-43, Thursday night in Allen Fieldhouse.

Chalmers, who also scored 22 in Kansas’ win over Boston College, connected on a season-high four three pointers. The sophomore guard now has six career 20-point performances and has scored in double figures in eight games this season.

KU got off to a fast start, jumping out to an early 16-3 lead capped by three-pointers by junior Russell Robinson and freshman Sherron Collins. The Jayhawks limited Detroit to 21.7 percent shooting in the first half and took a 26-16 lead into the break.

Detroit rallied back in the second half behind junior Brandon Cotton, who finished with a team-high 20 points. A three pointer by junior Jon Goode pulled the Titans to within four at 41-37, but sophomore Julian Wright answered with four straight points to give KU an eight point lead that it would not relinquish.

Sophomore Brandon Rush added nine points and five rebounds for Kansas, which has now held 19-straight opponents to under 50 percent shooting from the field. Robinson and Collins each scored seven points, while Collins recorded a game-high five assists. Junior Sasha Kaun and freshman Darrell Arthur each scored six and Wright added five points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Kansas will next be in action on Dec. 30 against Atlantic-10 foe Rhode Island. Tip is set for 7 p.m. from Allen Fieldhouse.
