Spurs Sign Jayhawk Keith Langford

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced Friday that they have signed Kansas guard Keith Langford. Langford had an outstanding career at KU from 2002-05 as he played in 136 games, including 16 NCAA Tournament contests.

The 6-4, 215-pound Langford has been playing with the Austin Toros, the Spurs affiliate in the NBA Development League. He averaged 23.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 42.6 minutes of action in nine games. Langford has started seven games for the Toros and was second on the team in scoring. He was allocated to Austin by the D-League prior to the 2007-08 season.

A Fort Worth, Texas, native, Langford spent the 2007 training camp with San Antonio where he averaged 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in five preseason games. He was waived on Oct. 24.

Langford, who went unpicked in the 2005 NBA Draft, spent last season with Vanoli Soresina in Italy where he averaged 19.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 34 games. During the 2005-06 season, he spent time with the Fort Worth Flyers of the D-League and the Kansas Cagerz of the USBL.

A member of three Big 12 regular-season championship teams (2002, 2003 and 2005), Langford finished his collegiate career as KU’s sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,812 points. He also ranks among KU’s career leaders in minutes played (sixth at 3,931) and free throws (eighth at 368). He was a member of the 2003 NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team and the NCAA regional all-tourney teams in 2002 and 2003.

Langford becomes the 10th Jayhawk to be on an NBA roster during the 2007-08 season. He joins Nick Collison (Seattle), Drew Gooden (Cleveland), Kirk Hinrich (Chicago), Raef LaFrentz (Portland), Paul Pierce (Boston), Scot Pollard (Boston), Billy Thomas (New Jersey), Jacque Vaughn (San Antonio) and Julian Wright (New Orleans).
