LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Despite a career-high 23 points from freshman Kelly Kohn, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team fell to Northern Illinois, 82-74, Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Kohn, one of three Jayhawks to score in double figures, knocked down five three-pointers and grabbed five rebounds in the defeat.

Joining Kohn in double-digit scoring was freshman Sade Morris, who scored 15, and senior Shaquina Mosley, who went for 10 points. Morris was 7-of-12 from the field in 24 minutes of action. Mosley came off the bench to add five rebounds, four assists and four steals to her scoring line.

For the game, the Jayhawks’ bench outscored the Huskies, 30-8, and forced 16 NIU turnovers. Freshman LaChelda Jacobs chipped in with six points, two rebounds and two assists while junior Taylor McIntosh added a game-high six rebounds in the defeat.

The Jayhawks carried a 35-29 lead into halftime behind Kohn’s 13 points, while sophomore Marija Zinic added five points and six rebounds. However, the Huskies shot 64 percent from the field in the second half and made 22-of-27 free throws. Senior Stephanie Raymond led Northern Iowa with 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Jayhawks return to the hardwood on New Year’s Eve, when they host Xavier at Allen Fieldhouse. Tip off is set for 12:30 p.m.
