Women's Basketball Makes Annual Visit To Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Dec. 29, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the 16th consecutive year, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team brightened the holidays of patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Coaches and team members, led by head coach Bonnie Henrickson, visited the hospital Monday morning and distribute items collected during the “Crimson & Blue Holiday Project”.

During the visit, the team will gave patients a variety of KU licensed product, including tee shirts, jerseys, playing cards, pennants and team posters.

KU’s Trademark Licensing Office collected the items from officially licensed vendors, who donate the product for this event each year. This year the licensees donated over 1300 items with a retail value of approximately $27,000, according to Paul Vander Tuig, KU’s Trademark Licensing Director.

“The project and particularly the visit to LMH is always a great day,” Vander Tuig said. “2008 has been a great year for our licensees. With their help, this is one way for Kansas Athletics and the University to give something back to our community. The visit by Coach Henrickson and the team added a little holiday spirit to a hospital stay.”

The trademark licensing program collects fees and royalties from manufacturers authorized to use KU’s trademarks commercially. Royalties distributed from the program are used to fund student and student-athlete scholarships at KU.
