LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Despite a career-high 18 points from freshman LaChelda Jacobs, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team (5-7) lost to Xavier (8-4), 72-63, Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse. Jacobs also pulled down a season-high seven rebounds and knocked down two three-point shots.

Two other Jayhawks reached double figures in the game, as freshman Sade Morris scored 11 and senior Shaquina Mosley chipped in 10. Morris added three rebounds and dished out two assists. Mosley distributed a game-high six assists and was 5-of-7 from the field.

Freshman Porscha Weddington, making her first career start, scored five points and grabbed five rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Fellow rookie Danielle McCray came off the bench to score nine points in 18 minutes of action and junior Taylor McIntosh grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and recorded two blocks in the game.

Freshman Amber Harris led the Muskateers with 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.

The defeat marks the end of the non-conference season for the Jayhawks. Kansas opens Big 12 play on Jan. 3, when it travels to Ames, Iowa, to play Iowa State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will air on CSTV.
