Jayhawks Fall to Sooners in Three Sets

LAWRENCE, Kan. Kansas fell in three sets to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon in the Horejsi Family Volleyball Area.

The first set started off as an even match-up with the Jayhawks and the Sooners going back-and-forth until Kansas pull ahead after a seven-point run. The Jayhawks were up early, holding a 15-5 advantage over the Sooners, and eventually reached a 20-12 edge in the set.

Despite being led by senior Zoe Hill who tallied four kills in the set, KU was not able to hold off the Oklahoma comeback. OU took the lead back at 24-23 and won the set with a final score of 26-24.

Even though they were down early in the second set, Kansas made a solid comeback effort, making it a three-point match near the end. The Sooner offense held strong, capturing the second set 25-19.

Hill and Ennis each had three more kills in the second set, and Kansas added four more blocks. The Jayhawks had 23 kills and eight blocks in the first two sets. Junior Sara Nielson also earned her second ace of the match.

Oklahoma took an early lead in the third, but KU had no problem fighting back. The Jayhawks tied the game at 9-9 and took a 10-9 lead after a kill from Ashley Smith. Oklahoma responded and pulled off a 25-20 win to take the set and the match.

The Jayhawks are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. against Texas Tech in the Horejsi Family Volleyball Area. The match will be televised on Big 12 Now and ESPN+.
