Due to COVID-19 and updated policies related to it, media requesting to cover Kansas men’s basketball home contests during the 2020-21 season must read the following information prior to applying for credentials. Media policies and information are subject to change and will be redistributed as necessary. Credentials will be assigned ONLY on a single-game basis. All individuals are required to wear a mask at all times at Allen Fieldhouse, except when eating or drinking. Thank you for your cooperation and attention to these updated policies and procedures.
The media entrance will be Gate 12 (south end of Allen Fieldhouse, west side). Those approved for a media credential will be temperature checked upon arrival, given a wristband and credential, and directed to the stairs or elevator to Section 13A, which is located on the third floor, southwest corner. Credential media members in section 13A will not be permitted to access the ground floor of Allen Fieldhouse, only the concourse and assigned seat.
There will be no media seating on the floor of Allen Fieldhouse, all will be located in Section 13A and masks will be required at all times. Kansas Communications will assign seats for those who have been approved for credentials. With 6-ft. social distancing seating implemented, there will only be 10 seats available in 13A. Currently, the 10 seats in 13A for men’s basketball will be – 1. Associated Press, 2. Lawrence Journal-World, 3. Kansas City Star, 4. Topeka Capital-Journal, 5. University Daily Kansan, 6. Jayhawk Slant, 7. 247Sports.com, and 8-9-10. Opponent/National media. This list is fluid upon those who apply for credentials. Please direct on inquires to Chris Theisen.
Media Workroom & Media Meal
There will not be a designated media workroom, rather those with approved credentials must work strictly from their assigned seat in 13A. Credentialed media in section 13A will receive a concession stand voucher to use as their media meal.
Postgame Press Conferences
Postgame press conferences for Kansas will be conducted exclusively via Zoom. Specific links and passcodes will be emailed out prior to the start of the game(s). The visiting team will have the capability to also host a postgame video conference.
There will be 2-3 spots available on the floor for non-KU photographers depending on the opponent. Those approved individuals are required to wear a mask and face shield while on the floor. You should bring your own mask but a face shield will be provided by KU. The designated photographers will not be able to leave the first floor of Allen Fieldhouse and can use the media room to work, where a media meal will also be provided. Kansas Athletics Communications will set up a rotation of photographers for these limited floor photography positions who agree to adhere to the mask and shield requirements. No photographers will be allowed to shoot from second and/or third floor entrances to Allen Fieldhouse.
In addition, no videographers are permitted inside Allen Fieldhouse. it is suggested that TV outlets record the network game broadcast for highlights and participate in the videoconferences for postgame interviews. Live shots may be conducted outside of Allen Fieldhouse.
There are no reserved parking passes around Allen Fieldhouse for the 2020-21 season, so parking passes are not required. Media are encouraged to park in Lot 90 which is close to Gate 12 and the designated media entrance.
