BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic – The Kansas baseball team found itself right at home Friday afternoon in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, after the Jayhawks traveled to familiar territory to work out at the Kansas City Royals Academy.

Heavy rains forced KU to cancel both contests on the day, but that didn’t deter the squad from making the trip to the Royals complex to workout. The position players stretched and took batting practice in the cages, while the pitchers loosened up their arms with a throwing routine.

“The Royals always treat us first class, wherever we go,” head coach Ritch Price said. “We have such a great relationship with them that even in a different country, we feel at home.”

Price also treated his Jayhawks to some down time in the city of Boca Chica where they players were allowed to explore local shops and eat local cuisine, something he felt was important.

“I don’t ever want our guys to take anything for granted,” Price said. “To experience the culture down here is something special. I tell them every time we play one of the local teams that baseball is a way of life for these guys. The drive and work ethic by the young local talent is something to be amazed by.”

With rain still in the forecast, Kansas will look to try and make up at least one or both of the games that got canceled on Saturday, November 26. Times and locations for all contests are to be determined.
