Zeferjahn voted to Preseason All-Big 12 Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. –The Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday morning that Kansas junior starting pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn was named to its Preseason All-Big 12 Team, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

The team consists of 18 players from across the conference, with Zeferjahn earning one of the six pitching spots.

“Zeferjahn is one of the best pitchers in our league,” head coach Ritch Price said. “He took a big jump last season in his development, and if he does the same this year, he has a chance to be one of the most dominant pitchers in college baseball.”

In 2018, Zeferjahn garnered All-Big 12 Second Team honors and finished the season with a record of 8-5 and a 4.48 ERA. He became the first Jayhawk since 2016 (Ben Krauth) to strike out 100 batters in a season, finishing the year with an even 100 that rank tied for sixth in the Kansas single-season record books.

This is the second preseason accolade the Topeka native has earned, as Baseball America previously named Zeferjahn to its Preseason All-America Third Team, as voted on by Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts.

Zeferjahn and the Jayhawks open the 2019 season at South Carolina Upstate, Feb. 15-18, before returning to Hoglund Ballpark for their home opener Wednesday, Feb. 20, against Omaha.
