Family Activities Surround Baseball and Softball Weekend

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Predicted to be a near-perfect weekend with temperatures in the mid-60s to 70s, Kansas Athletics announces a fun-filled family weekend surrounding both the Jayhawk baseball and softball diamonds.

Kansas baseball welcomes Oklahoma for a three-game series to open up Big 12 Conference play at home Friday, March 28 – Sunday, March 30 at Hoglund Ballpark. Wearing alternate uniforms, the team will throw it back for an old-school atmosphere of classic songs on Friday, with Big Jay rocking his ’70s attire. The evening’s contest, dubbed as Senior Citizen Night, offers a buy one get one free ticket offer for senior citizen general admission tickets.

The family weekend wouldn’t be complete without Junior Jayhawks Day. Free admission can be enjoyed by all Junior Jayhawks during Saturday’s baseball game (2 p.m.), with a $3 discounted ticket for parents. In addition, KU would like to show its gratitude by hosting Season-Ticket Holder Appreciation Day, with a special recognition made by the players.

Sunday’s finale (1 p.m.) at Hoglund Ballpark features Youth Baseball Day with kids in uniform receiving $3 admission. After the game, kids are welcome on the field to run the bases and get autographs from their favorite Jayhawk players.

Trending with the Oklahoma theme, the Kansas softball team opens its home conference slate with a three-game series against Oklahoma State. Friday’s 5 p.m. start is Bring a Kid to the Ballpark Day. For each adult general admission ticket purchased, you receive one free youth general admission ticket. The night’s festivities also highlight Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night and a Camper Reunion. Free admission for all Kansas faculty, staff and state employees with a valid ID will be honored, in addition to all former KU softball camp attendees being admitted to the game free and a $3 ticket for their parents.

What would a softball game be without fans? Saturday’s 2 p.m. first pitch versus OSU is Fan Appreciation Day. All fans wearing their KU blue will receive $3 admission with a special recognition to be given to all KU Softball Alumni. The weekend’s activities close with Bark in the Park at Arrocha Ballpark. With a donation to the Lawrence Humane Society, dogs will be allowed in the ballpark along with their human companions, with a dog photo contest to follow. Visit the KU softball Facebook page for more information on the photo contest.

The family Fun Zone, featuring inflatables, face painting, music and more, will be located on lot 125 between the baseball and softball complexes Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. Each game includes some sort of giveaway, while supplies last.
