LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 22-ranked Kansas baseball team will enter the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship as the No. 3 seed and will play the sixth-ranked school in the first round, the conference announced Friday afternoon.

The Jayhawks (33-21, 15-9 Big 12) ended league play on a nine-game winning streak to solidify a third-place finish, the highest for KU in the 18-year history of the conference. Based on the seeding by the Big 12, Kansas will play the first game of the championship, Wednesday, May 21, at 9 a.m. against the No. 6 seed.

Oklahoma State, winners of the regular-season title, will enter as the No. 1 seed and play the No. 8 seed at 4 p.m., while TCU finished second and will play the No. 7 seed at 12:30 p.m.

With two days left of conference play, the last three seeds will be determined after Saturday’s contests and placed in the brackets accordingly.

In the 12-year tenure of head coach Ritch Price, Kansas has won one Big 12 Championship title (2006), while advancing to the title game one other time (2013).

KU closes out its regular-season of competition, May 17-18, with a two-game set against Michigan, before flying straight to Oklahoma City for the conference championship.
