OVER-THE-SHOULDER – Junior Shelby Hughston made an over-the-shoulder catch in the outfield of Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park during KU softball’s first opportunity to practice outdoors on Friday, February 1. The Jayhawks open their 2019 season on Friday, February 8, at Arizona State’s three-day Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona.
SMOOTH OPERATOR – Groundskeeper Andrew Woodhead pulled a Turf Smoother around the outfield inside Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park to fluff the turf on Friday, February 1, ahead of KU softball’s first outdoor practice on the field that just days before was frozen and covered with snow.
CUSTOM STYLE – The individual style of the KU softball players was displayed by the gloves using custom options for leather and laces during practice on Friday, February 1. The new gloves will get plenty of use while playing five games over three days during Arizona State’s Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona beginning on Friday, February 8.
BIRD CHIRPS – Big Jay took a seat between Mitch George and Dayton Hammes to help the two Kansas Athletics Communications students with their women’s basketball game duties during the Jayhawks’ victory over Oklahoma inside Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 30.
HONOR ROLL – Director of Athletics Jeff Long high-fived KU student-athletes as they left James Naismith Court inside Allen Fieldhouse after being honored for their academic work and being named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Texas Tech on Saturday, February 2.
