RAMPED UP – Senior pole vaulter Hussain Al Hizam carefully guided the case containing his 16-5-foot poles away from the baggage carousel ramp at the Preston Smith International Airport in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, February 20. None of the KU vaulters could remember having their poles sent up the ramp in the United States. KU competed in the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday and Saturday, February 22-23, inside the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
TIGHT SQUEEZE – Junior pole vaulter Andrea Willis climbed inside the luggage bay of a bus at the Preston Smith International Airport in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, February 20, to guide the cases of poles that were being pushed diagonally by sophomore vaulter Kyle Rogers. ROBED – Known for his love of hotel robes, sophomore distance runner Ben Butler donned one from his room at the Overton Hotel for a casual team breakfast on Saturday, February 23, the final day of the two-day Big 12 Track & Field Championship in Lubbock, Texas, inside the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
LEG WHIP – KU’s Alexandra Emilianov used a bleacher for support to loosen up inside the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center before the sophomore competed in the women’s shot put on the final day of the two-day Big 12 Track & Field Championship in Lubbock, Texas, on February 23.
HELPING HAND – A runner gave a hand to help KU’s Dylan Hodgson up from the Texas Tech Sports Performance track after the senior spent a busy two days with a fifth-place finish in Saturday’s men’s mile at the Big 12 Track & Field Championship in Lubbock, Texas, February 22-23. Hodgson finished fifth in the men’s 3,000-meter run and on Friday qualified for the mile and held off all challengers to anchor the Jayhawks’ winning distance medley relay team to help the men’s team finish third overall.
WAY TO GO – Sophomore Honour Finley clasped hands with senior Marleena Eubanks after the duo ran KU’s middle two legs of the second place 4x400-meter relay team to cap the final event of the women’s competition at the two-day Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship inside the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, February 23. The women’s team finished in fourth place overall.
