Twelve Jayhawks Tabbed to Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Lists

IRVING, Texas – Twelve members of the Kansas men’s and women’s cross country teams received Academic All-Big 12 recognition it was announced Wednesday by the league office. Headlining the group were senior Josh Munsch and sophomore Reid Buchanan, who each claimed spots on the first team for the second time.
 
A total of six KU men were honored on the list of 37 total student-athletes, four of which made the first team and two on the second-team. Buchanan (electrical engineering) made the prestigious list for the second year in a row, while the senior, Munsch, also listed on the first team for the second time after making the first team in 2011. Evan Landes (exercise science) and Ben Brownlee (business) were named to the first team for the first time.
 
Juniors Conner Day (English-creative writing) and Brendan Soucie (exercise science) were additions to the second team. Both Jayhawks are now two-time honorees on the second team.
 
On the list of 62 student-athletes, the KU women had four first-team selections and two second-team honorees.
 
Each Jayhawk that was named to the first team was a first time honoree. KU featured junior Hayley Francis (journalism), sophomore Hannah Richardson (exercise science) and redshirt freshmen Julia Dury (civil engineering) and Kennedy Schneider (pharmacy) who each were donned with first-team honors.
 
Senior Natalie Becker (community health) found her name on the All-Academic list for the second time by claiming second-team honors. She was joined by sophomore Rachael Schaffer (English education), who made the academic list for the first time.
 
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the men’s and women’s cross country academic all-league squads include those who have maintained a 3.00 GPA (either cumulative or over each of the two previous semesters) and have participated in 60 percent of his/her team’s scheduled contests. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and members of the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Kansas will compete at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 2. The men’s 8K race begins at 10 a.m. (CT), followed by the women’s 6K at 11 a.m.
