Fall competition begins Saturday for Kansas softball

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball begins the competition portion of its fall season on Saturday in Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Jayhawks face the University of Saint Mary at 10 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. first pitch against Cowley County Community College.

“We have competed in a lot of scrimmages during practice this fall and everyone is progressing very well, but it’s just different to play against another opponent,” Kansas head coach Megan Smith said. “We are going to have lots of new pitching in the circle, as well as newcomers at many different positions in the field. It’s just seeing those new players out there competing is going to be exciting for us.”

Family Weekend also highlights the festivities at Rock Chalk Park this weekend as parents of current student-athletes gather in Lawrence for a social on Friday night and family-style postgame meal after the doubleheader on Saturday.

“One of our core values in the ‘Jayhawk Way’ is family. We are a family as a team, and that includes our players’ families,” Smith said. “It’s important for us to include them in what we do. They are great supporters of ours and we just like to spend time with them. It’s going to be really special. We are excited to welcome all of our new players and their families this weekend.”

Scores will not be published after the conclusion of the games.
