Montell Cozart Named Starting Quarterback

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis announced Thursday morning that sophomore Montell Cozart has been named the Jayhawks’ starting quarterback.

“After the completion of post spring ball evaluations and individual player meetings, I met with the offensive staff and we have decided to name Montell Cozart our starting quarterback,” said Weis.

Cozart earned Offensive MVP honors following KU’s annual Spring Game after leading his Blue team to a 20-10 win over the White team. He finished the game completing 6-of-10 passes for 58 yards, while also rushing for 70 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

Kansas will open its 2014 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 6, when it plays host to Southeast Missouri State at Memorial Stadium.
