Kansas Athletics is ready to Kickoff the Year; Are You?

LAWRENCE, Kan. – As the vehicle and foot traffic gradually begins to pick up on the University of Kansas’ campus, the Kansas Athletics Department is gearing up for another successful season.  The 2013-14 campaign will begin with a bang thanks to a weekend of activities starting Friday with the annual KU Kickoff at Corinth Square in Kansas City.

The eighth annual KU Kickoff, sponsored by First National Bank and hosted by Kansas Athletics and the KU Alumni Association, will begin at 6 p.m., on the corner of 83rd & Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kan. The KU Pep Band and Spirit Squad will open the event, followed by head football coach Charlie Weis, women’s track and field national coach of the year Stanley Redwine and head women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson.

The KU Kickoff at Corinth Square will include food, drinks and KU giveaways as well as inflatable games for kids. The popular cover band SELLOUT! is scheduled to perform from 7-10 p.m. A limited number of coupons for Corinth Square vendors will be available for members of the KU Alumni Association and Williams Education Fund who show their membership cards.

On Saturday, Fan Appreciation Day will be held in Memorial Stadium. The gates on the west side of the stadium will open at 10:45 a.m., with practice slated to begin at 11:15 a.m. Cameras will not be allowed to be used inside the stadium until the completion of practice.

Weis and the Jayhawk players, who will be set up at tables by position group, will sign autographs for 30 minutes following the conclusion of practice. KU football posters, rosters and other promotional items will be available for the team to sign. Any other items brought for signing will have to be personalized by the coaching staff and the KU players.

In addition, the Hy-Vee Hawk Zone, full of inflatables games for children, will be open from 9-11 a.m., at the KU football practice fields adjacent to Memorial Stadium on the southeast corner.

On Sunday, the Kansas women’s soccer team will host Nebraska-Omaha in the only exhibition for the Jayhawks this season at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and there will be FREE admission.
