Harwell and Mundine Named To 2014 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football seniors wide receiver Nick Harwell and tight end Jimmay Mundine were featured on the list of 2014 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award candidates released by the Tyler, Texas Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler Wednesday.

Before transferring to Kansas in 2013, Harwell rewrote several receiving records during a three-year stint at Miami (Ohio). He closed out his career at Miami holding the three highest single-game reception and receiving yard totals, as well as rewriting the record for most 100-yard games in school history. In just three seasons, the Missouri City, Texas native ranks second on both the all-time Miami receptions and receiving yards lists with 229 catches for 3,166 yards.

Mundine, a Denison, Texas, native, returns as KU’s active leader in touchdown catches, while ranking second in receptions (41) and receiving yards (498). In 2013 Mundine emerged as one of the Big 12’s best tight ends after breaking out and ending the season in third place among conference tight ends in receptions and yards, garnering All-Conference honors by the league coaches.

The Watch List announced today will be narrowed down to 16 semifinalists in November and then trimmed to four finalists in December. The semifinalists and finalists will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans and (in the future) former winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet scheduled for January 14, 2015.

Kansas will open the 2014 season by hosting Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., in Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available by contacting the Kansas Athletics Ticket Office via KUAthletics.com or by calling 800-34-HAWKS.
