Beaty Gives Cozart the Nod at Quarterback

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With 2015 Kansas football Fall Camp officially in the books, Jayhawk head coach David Beaty announced Monday afternoon that junior Montell Cozart has been named the Jayhawks’ starting quarterback.

“Montell has been able to operate our offensive effectively,” said Beaty. “He has been able to move the team, he has taken care of the ball and valued possessions and he has really become productive as a leader with that group which is really important to us.”

As the Jayhawks now turn their attention towards the first game of the 2015 campaign, they will rely on Cozart to lead the offense. The Kansas City, Missouri, native has seen action in 14 games during his first two seasons at KU, including eight starts.

“Competing and earning it, that is something that we are harping on around here,” said Cozart. “I knew I had to step up. Going through camp I feel like my teammates and the coaching staff have gotten a lot of confidence in me and that is a great feeling as a quarterback.”

Kansas will open the 2015 football season by hosting South Dakota State on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m., in Memorial Stadium. Season tickets and Flex Pack tickets and single-game tickets are available now. Tickets are no longer required for children ages two and under and can be purchased by contacting the Kansas Sales Office via KUAthletics.com or by calling 800-34-HAWKS.
