Football Professional Round Up: Week Eight

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With professional football in full swing at the conclusion of the eighth week of games in the National Football League Sunday, 12 Jayhawks continue making their mark at the game’s highest level. A weekly recap of how Kansas football players fared in the professional ranks of the National Football League and the Canadian Football League is below.
 
Jon Cornish – Calgary Stampeders (CFL)
Cornish sat out Calgary’s 42-19 victory over Saskatchewan on Oct. 31 due to lingering concussion symptoms. The nine-year pro has rushed for 622 yards and four touchdowns after playing in nine games in 2015.
 
Chris Harris – Denver Broncos
Harris helped preserve Denver’s undefeated start to the season after beating Green Bay, 29-10, on Nov. 1. Harris ranked third on the team in tackles with five against the Packers. On the year, Harris has 29 tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a score. Denver is one of four teams yet to suffer a defeat through week seven, posting an unblemished 7-0 record.
 
Tanner Hawkinson – Philadelphia Eagles 
Hawkinson was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed from the San Francisco 49er’s practice squad on Oct. 13. The Eagles were off in week eight and will resume play on Nov. 8 at Dallas.   
  
Ben Heeney – Oakland Raiders
Heeney did not record any statistics in the Raiders’, 34-20, victory over the New York Jets on Nov. 1. On the year, Heeney has played in six games in his rookie season, with two stops.
 
Steven Johnson – Tennessee Titans 
Johnson saw time in Tennessee’s, 20-6, loss to the Houston Texans on Nov. 1, but did not record any statistics. After being traded from Denver prior to the season starting, Johnson has made one tackle through seven games.
 
Dexter McDonald – Oakland Raiders
McDonald saw his only action of the season at Chicago on Oct. 4, but has not recorded any statistics in his rookie season. Oakland defeated the New York Jets, 34-20, on Nov. 1.   
 
Bradley McDougald – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 
McDougald ranked third in total tackles after posting eight stops Tampa Bay’s, 23-20, win over the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 1. McDougald has started all seven games at free safety and has already recorded 42 tackles and one interception on the year.
 
Toben Opurum – New Orleans Saints
Opurum and the Saints won, 52-49, against the New York Giants on Nov. 1. Opurum has played in one game in 2015 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 13.
 
JaCorey Shepherd – Philadelphia Eagles 
Shepherd is sidelined on the Eagles injured reserve list after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
 
Kevin Short – Seattle Seahawks
Short is a member of Seattle’s practice squad. Seattle won, 13-12, against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 1.
 
Darrell Stuckey – San Diego Chargers
Stuckey made one tackle in San Diego’s, 29-26, loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 1. Stuckey now has five tackles and the first sack of his five-year career in week five at Pittsburgh.
 
Aqib Talib – Denver Broncos 
Talib has helped the Broncos to an unblemished 7-0 start after defeating Green Bay, 29-10, on Nov. 1. Talib made one stop in the victory, and overall has posted 19 tackles and three interceptions for the AFC West leading Broncos.
