Professional Football Round Up: Week Nine

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With professional football in full swing at the conclusion of the ninth week of games in the National Football League Sunday, 12 Jayhawks continue making their mark at the game’s highest level. A weekly recap of how Kansas football players fared in the professional ranks of the National Football League and the Canadian Football League is below.
 
Jon Cornish – Calgary Stampeders (CFL)
Cornish sat out Calgary’s 28-7 victory over the B.C. Lions on Nov. 7 due to lingering concussion symptoms. The nine-year pro has rushed for 622 yards and four touchdowns after playing in nine games in 2015.
 
Chris Harris – Denver Broncos
Harris notched three tackles in Denver’s, 27-24, loss against Indianapolis on Nov. 8. On the year, Harris has 32 tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a score.
 
Tanner Hawkinson – Philadelphia Eagles 
Hawkinson saw his first action of the season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The Eagles won, 33-27, in overtime on Nov. 8. Hawkinson was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles and signed from the San Francisco 49er’s practice squad on Oct. 13.
  
Ben Heeney – Oakland Raiders
Heeney posted one tackle in Oakland’s, 38-35, loss to Pittsburgh on Nov. 8. On the year, Heeney has played in seven games in his rookie season, with three stops.
 
Steven Johnson – Tennessee Titans 
Johnson notched a season-high two tackles and recovered a fumble in Tennessee’s, 34-28, win over New Orleans on Nov. 8.  After being traded from Denver prior to the season starting, Johnson has made three tackles through eight games.
 
Dexter McDonald – Oakland Raiders
McDonald saw his only action of the season at Chicago on Oct. 4, but has not recorded any statistics in his rookie season. Oakland lost, 38-35, to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 8.   
 
Bradley McDougald – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 
McDougald made three tackles in Tampa Bay’s, 32-18, loss to the New York Giants on Nov. 8. McDougald has started all eight games at free safety and has recorded 45 tackles and one interception on the year.
 
Toben Opurum – New Orleans Saints
Opurum and the Saints lost, 34-28, to the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 8. Opurum has played in one game in 2015 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 13.
 
JaCorey Shepherd – Philadelphia Eagles 
Shepherd is sidelined on the Eagles injured reserve list after tearing his ACL in the preseason.
 
Kevin Short – Seattle Seahawks
Short is a member of Seattle’s practice squad. Seattle won, 13-12, against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 1.
 
Darrell Stuckey – San Diego Chargers
Stuckey saw time in San Diego’s, 29-26, loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 8, but did not record any statistic. Stuckey now has five tackles and the first sack of his five-year career in week five at Pittsburgh.
 
Aqib Talib – Denver Broncos 
Talib and the Broncos lost, 27-24, to the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 8. Talib broke up one pass in the game.
